Enabling Cookies
5 Answers
I am trying to join a forum hosted by a different ISP to the one I'm using. But when I try to get a .NET passport a messege keeps coming up saying that I can't do it because I need to enable cookies, which it says are currently disabled. But when I look at the properties of my ISP, in the custom security section that under 'Cookies' the 'enabled' boxes are activated. However, this doesn't seem to work. What am I doing wrong?

Repeat for "Trusted" and "Restricted" sites then 'apply'. Restart IE and it should work. Forgive me if I have misunderstood you and you have done all of this. Other things you could try include upgrading IE to version 6 service pack 1 (or whatever the latest version is) as this integrates with the .NET framework better (as does getting other .NET related Windows Updates: in IE tools-windows update).
Are you using Internet Explorer? If you are then have a look at the Internet Options which is under "Tools" at the top of the window. If you're running version 6 of Internet Explorer, there should be a tab with Privacy on it. On that page there is a slider that allows you to control cookies, slide it down to Medium and click Apply then OK. Hopefully you should be able to get your .NET passport now. My memory is a bit vague about previous versions of IE, but if you explore the Internet Options tabs you should find cookie controls somewhere. Failing this, are you running a firewall? Some firewalls can be a bit over protective, try disabling it temporarily. Good luck.
