What, in your opinion, is the best game? Regardless of platform (PC, XBox, PS1/2, Gamecube, SNES (!?)) what are the best platformers/shoot-em-ups/sports/driving/strategy/stealth/beat-em-up etc etc that you have played? Please tell me you favs, even if it is lowly solitaire.

As you can probably tell from my login, I'm a bit of a car nut, so my favourite games are driving sims. I particularly like the TOCA series on PS1 and 2, the 'Driver' games, and The Getaway on PS2.

TETRIS is an all time classic, but modern day games I would have to say Vice City. Nothing quite beats running from the police on a PCJ600 across Starfish island listening to Mister Mister or Spandeau Ballet...

I've always been partial to the Final Fantasy series on PS1 and Tomb Raider.

Speaking from a PS1 perspective, it's got to be Crash Bandicoot 2 or 3. Crash 1 is OK, but was improved immensely in later issues. Crash Team Racing is OK, if a bit frustrating. Crash Bash is pretty much a boring waste of time.

Has got to be Myst I, II and III ... not too sure about Myst III but will let you know if I ever crack it.

A bit retro i know, but Goldeneye on the N64 must have provided me with hundreds of hours of entertainment, sitting around with 3 mates having a multiplayer Licence To Kill fest. Perfect Dark, also on the N64, was just as good but didn't have Jaws or Oddjob in it. Best PC game is probably Deus Ex - the sequel is supposed to be with us by Xmas. Best PS2 is between GTAIII (i haven't played Vice City yet as i'm waiting for the PC release) and Pro Evolution Soccer 2. I'd like to mention a couple of pretty good PC games - No One Lives Forever 2 is brilliant fun, but i thought it was over too quickly as i finished it in under a week (or was i just playing it for too many hours per day?). Another game i really enjoyed was Jedi Knight 2 - Jedi Outcast... the lightsaber is just incredible. Best game all time? I can't stop myself from nominating Elite on the BBC. I almost messed up my exams because of that game. More addictive than opium chocolate...

I cant believe no one has mentioned the most addictive game ever, Championship Manager! Also, I cant see Counter Strike anywhere either. Do you people have any taste? Myst is AWFUL! I agree with most of Cactus's suggestions though. Look out for IGI2 - Covert Strike, it will be amazing

Just thought i'd add some games i'm looking forward to this year, most of them PC i'm afraid! - Splinter Cell is out on 14/02 (put back from 31/01 for some reason), i've played the demo, it's a sneak-em-up must buy. - Enter The Matrix is out 15/05 to coincide with the US release of the film sequel - sounds like it's gonna be superb, but we'll have to wait and see. - Unreal 2 is supposed to be out 7/02 (fingers crossed) and it's no exaggeration to say it looks awesome (i hate using that word), if your PC is up to the task that is. - Stav will be happy to know that IGI2 is out 21/02, i was a fan of the first one so i'm looking forward to it. - Colin McRae 3 is out on the same day, anyone who hasn't played CM2 with a MS Force feedback wheel... well you've missed out, that's all i'm saying. - Counter Strike: Condition Zero, out 1/03, this one's worth selling your granny for. Can't wait. - Breed, the game that nVidia have been using to showcase their new GeForce FX chip, out 28/03. Eye candy ahoy. - Deus Ex 2, out 23/05? I'll believe it when i see it, Xmas morelike. - Quake IV, out 06/06, frantic fun. - Doom III, out 30/06, this one's going to be a little bit special! (if the engine lives up to the screenshots) - When are they gonna release Vice City, the ba$]@&ds?
