All my email folders are set up to work offline. Therefore, once synchronised, the contents of my .ost file are identical to that of my mailbox stored on my exchange server, right? Ok. I am moving offices so therefore need to change the exchange server that my mailbox is stored on. How do I do this? Is it just a case of setting up a new mailboxon the new server, logging on and synchronising or is it more complex? Cheers

I would export your current exchange mail box to a .pst file on your local computer (In Outlook go to File-Import and Export.../Export to a file/Personal folder file .pst Note: make sure you select from the mailbox root and include subfolders). Your administrator will set you up a new mail account on the new Exchange server so configure Outlook to find your mail on the new server then import your pst file to your new mailbox. I don't think you can import a .ost file into Exchange.

cheers - i was afraid you were going to say that. seems daft that you're creating a .pst file that contains exactly the same data as an .ost file that's already there, though.

Remember to only export your mailbox just before you move as it rips all of your mail from exchange to the .pst file. Alternatively, you can export your mail then change the delivery of new mail to the .pst file rather than the exchange mailbox.You should also ensure you have a forwarder on the old exchange box to your new exchange email account or you will have mail going missing. I don't really know the difference between a .ost and a .pst file (other than the source) but you are right in thinking it is daft to create a file that is already there. That's Microsoft for you!
