Going digital

With everywhere eventually going digital I'm wondering what is the cheapest way to run Sky to another telly upstairs, Also, what is the cheapest digital aerial you can get so I can run the other telly's of digital boxes.

you cant run sky to another tv,you have to have another skybox.

Not true. You can split the coax cable that comes from your sky digital box using many different methods and run to another TV. It may cause slight loss of signal quality through the Coax. It also limits you to watching the same channel upstairs as downstairs. To watch different channels NORMANTHEDOG is correct, you will need to get Sky multiroom which may need a different attachment (LNB) on your dish to run multiple cables. You can recieve your same package in another room for �10 per month or get a freeview card for nothing. You may have to buy a second sky digital reciever depending on what offers are currently running.

Oh and a decent aerial shouldn't cost you more than about �40 to be fitted.

I agree with Kerplunk - split the coax RF output from the SKY box (amplify if necessary) and feed to the other room.

Then use a remote control sender for the ability to change channels with the SKY remote in the other room.

I use a transmitter / receiver, (available in most AV outlets for around �30) to send the signal from my sky digital decoder to other TV's in the house, without the need for additional cables or wires. You can also change channels from other rooms using your sky remote as normal.

In addition you can connect to a computer if you don't have a DVD Recorder and save programmes to your hard drive, and make your own DVD's.

I agree with Nemesis and have had great value out of a cheap Philiips sender/receiver from Dixons. You do have to check that your receiving television has some AV channels (they come through on AV2 on my bedroom one) which some older televisions may not have.

I do get a little distortion of the microwave is on but otherwise extremely good picture and you can use your sky remote in the other room which is great for changing channels once you've gone to bed!

Hi I bought one of those wireless sender receivers from ebay and it is an excellent way to send the picture to another tv as it has the same quality sound and picture too, but yes - when the microwave is on it distorts and makes an awful noise. But other than that it's fine and mine has an infra red converter built in which means as well as sending the picture upstairs, I can take the remote control for sky upstairs and the receiver picks it up and switches sky over downstairs, it uses a little black thing to stick on the sky box

its easy but sounds complicated first you will need a plug in signal booster with outlets to however many rooms you want sky in the splitter /booster will have 1 input if you currently run a video in lets say your main viewing room here is where you start i will assume your sky box and tv aeriel plug into your video start by unplugging the cable from video to tv(,coax flylead) plug this into booster/splitter then fit new flylead from 1st outlet of boosterback to tv then run more made up flyleads to other tvs videos etc.coax cable is easily obtainable as are male and female coax plugsyou will then retune other tvs on spare channel to sky unfortunately you can only watch the sky channel that is on in you main veiwing room good luck colin.
