BIOS Hard Drive Barriers

In order to buy a hard disc for my old PC I need to know If my PC has the so called "Hard Drive Capacity Barrier": 8.4 GB barrier or 32 GB barrier or 137 GB barrier. (I want to buy a HDD capacity that my mothrboard will support). How can I determine this, I have the manual of the motherboard but it is not clear for me.. Thank you for your attention.
