I have that combo - it works very well indeed.

I have the windows firewall disabled.

I run AVG free with the window firewall and have never had a problem.

Getting rid of Norton was the best thing I ever did, it took a few weeks to calm down but I now run AVG only and it hardly ever find anything, I think Norton attracts all the virus or rather the virus writers, I think they look on it as a challenge to try to beat Norton, don't run it and they don't even know your there and never attack you:)

Zone Alarm is far superior to windows firewall.
ZoneAlarm is far superior to Windows Firewall, but you can have both of them running at the same time with no ill effects (unlike having two different antivirus software packages).

Running both will only give you trouble if you need to configure your firewall(s) to allow or deny specific traffic, BitTorrent for example, since you will have to configure both of them. Best to disable Windows Firewall then!
