If you scan an image and save it in 97 ppi and then increase the resolution to 300 ppi it will end up pixelized. Always scan images in 300 ppi or higher. You can't make a small image three times the size and keep the same quality.

You might try working with Bitmap bmp formats for high resolution images rather than JPEGs which are lower quality.

So in theory, if I create using bitmap at 300ppi I could then change the format to Jpeg? Or should I Gif it first?

All this for a front cover!!
