For apparently no reason, I am not displaying pictures in my microsoft outlook emails. It was working perfectly up until a couple of days ago. I don't think I've changed any options and I've looked to see if there's anything obvious to rectify it. Does anyone have any ideas?

By their definition plain text is just that, plain text with no fancy formatting, colored text, or graphics.
HTML e-mails are able to contain fancy text, graphics etc., but the downside is that some people can hide naughty code or viruses within HTML.
For security reasons Outlook has an option to create and recieve e-mails in plain text or HTML, so maybe this is turned on and off.
Or maybe it is a security setting in Outlook that turns HTML e-mails in to plain text.
If you have the proper Outlook (as part of Office) then you can get to this setting as follows:
Tools then Options then Mail Format.
There is an option called - Compose this in message format and the options are Plain Text, Rich Text and HTML.
On the same page there is also an Internet Format button that says what to do with graphics. Check that
