can you access other internet sites?

in which case, it may just be that there's a temporary problem on your ISP's side of things. give it an hour, and try again.

there is some site's i cant get!!

mainly one's with security...... my ebay , bank final payment stages on airport kind of things!!

but its been like it since a power cut about 2 months ago???

all help is greatly appreciated!!

ok.

do you have a direct connection to the internet? i.e. no router or anything, just a line to your modem from your computer?

next, try disabling your firewall, and see if you can access sites like that.

also, what firewall are you using, and what operating system? (XP etc.)

i am using ntl broadband, i have took away the firewall but to no avail, i am using windows xp?

many thanks

do you have any other software running that might be stopping this sort of thing, like anti-virus or something?

if you can access other sites then it's probably not NTL and not your modem either. sounds like some software that's running is stopping these sites from being accessed.

nothing new?

i cant think of anything, i am at work now with a dial up from aol running in windows xp and i can get verything here!

i am ok with the basics of comps but this is baffling me?

I had a similar problem over the christmas whereby i couldnt view any secure websites or login to MSN. After many phone calls to my ISP we discovered that the problem was that Internet Explorer had became corrupt. The only way i could fix this was to return my computer to its factory state.

rugeleyboy: try running firefox instead:

http://www.getfirefox.com

see if that sorts it.

i will give it a go..... just a side note?

my next door neighbour came around and told me to put the error code on google, is this a wise move?

ps.... many thanks for your help!

Well all it tells you is that it can't find the server, right? In which case the search will result in nothing: it's a very common error.
