when I moved out 2 yrs ago, I bought one of those wirelss B&Q doorbells, the one where you can place the chiming box anywhere within a certain distance from the buzzer on the front door. Problem I have now is someone esle on my road has one, so when someone rings their bell, mine rings too!!!!

Inside the box there are 4 switches - switch 1 + 2 are under tyhe heading "ON" and 3 + 4 are under "DIP". All buttons are set in the down position. The make is a Byron Wirefree Portable Chime, but cant find a model number or anything on the Byron Website. I know that I can move the switches about so that the frequency changes thus meaining my doorbell will only ring when someone presses the button on my door. Anyone know what position to put the buttons on?? Please help!!!

There will probably be matching switches in the actual 'press button'. Experiment - but draw a diagram of how all the switches are befpre you start - it is easy to lose track.
hey,

i work part-time at b&q i could have a look next time i am working and have a look at the instructions in the packet and post what positon to put the buttons on if you like? i know we definatley still stock byron doorbells fingers crossed we still do the one you have might help you.

If there's is making yours ring, maybe yours makes theirs ring - try taking your batteries out at night and pressing YOUR ringer - with a bit of luck it will make theirs ring and they'll maybe change their settings or get a new bell.

surely you have matching switches in the bell and the chime box ?

if you move one switch to up in the chime box, move the corresponding one up in the bell also.

lol Postdog! your wicked!! ;o)

I would have thought also that the markings on the bell and the push button should corresponded.

The Byron website does look very comprehensive. Try dropping their supprt line an email on how to identify your model.

The appear to have instruction manuals as pdf files.

I was thinking of getting one of those doorbells until I read spaced's question - now I get visions of two households both running round like headless chickens answering the door to each of the others callers.

Spaced? when you get an answer that works for heavens sakes tell me before I purchase that type of doorbell and drive myself and my dog bananas.

Then it will be really problematic for you. I think this is happening due to same switch system. I suggest you for video door bell system, this can be also wireless and it helps you to see and talk to the person outside your home premises without opening the door.
