can anyone direct me to a site that shows me a diagram on how to conect a rj11 extenstion cable i am moving my commputor in my spare room and i have to use an extension cable from my tel socket down stairs just purchased the cable any help would be appreciated i am a complete novice that is why i need a diagram

no its got 2 telephone type plugs at each end i think one end goes into the back of my router i think thats what its called and the other will plug into my telephone socket i,m not sure thats why i need a diagram
Susan, you're right. An RJ-11 is just a telephone line, for going between your phone socket and the router. Just plug it into the phone socket as you usually do with a phone (take a plug out of another socket to see which side up to put it), and then on the router side, it'll say either "RJ11" or probably have a telephone icon above the socket you need. In either case, it'll only fit one of the sockets on the back of the router, beacuse the others will be labelled 1 to 4 perhaps (if the router has 4 ports), and those are for RJ45 connections, which are slightly larger.
Yours is not an extension cable - it is just a connection cable from computer to socket.

You need one like the one I posted - then you can unplug the cable you already have from the telephone socket (leave it in the computer - plug it in to the new cable and then the new cable plugs in to the phone socket.

thanks for your replys but i,m cofused (and that doesnt take much)when my computer is in my spare bedroom the extension box will not work with broadband (been told this by my server and been told to get an RJ11, so ive just purchased a cable to run it from the spare room to my main telephone socket down stairs and this would solve the problem hopfully (got it of ebay)the one i,ve purchased is the one with like 2 telephone sockets on the ends,thanks everyone for your patience
