motorola phone tools - v3i

Hi can anyone tell me why whenever i try to load something from the computer to the phone (photo's., sounds etc) i always get the message "the connection has been broken by the phone" it blooming annoying, and never happen when i am passing things from the phone to the comp. I have phone tools installed. I also cant load any songs onto the digital player on the phone. Why not? I am a crap reader of instructions, and will admit i'm being lazy by posting here
