Some background: a dialer is a rouge piece of software that will dial up expensive phone numbers through your 56k telephone modem. If you don't have a 56k modem or your 56k modem is not connected then you won't suffer directly from it. If you are on broadband then you have a different type of modem that does not use the telephone system and so is not affected by a dialer. IMO, alanrw is spot on with doing a spyware scan (using spybot or adaware) as spyware always slows your computer down. You also seem to have ignored all the advice from your previous question regarding not having two antivirus programs (which I also agree with). norton and mcaffee are both very resource hungry so i would go with a more efficient antivirus (like free AVG).
