When flying from Heathrow to Stansted or maybe Luton the heading for Runway 8 is 89 .However if I enter this into the autopilot I land a few degrees to the left or the right of the runway. What went wrong ?Has anyone else ever experienced this ?

Normally you would never have a runway referred to as number eight but as 08. So maybe your simulator is taking the heading of 089 degs and automatically converting it to 09(nearest whole number). There may also be the differences of magnetic and true north to take into account. Don't know if any of this helps.

Heathrow runway 27 is actualy 275 degrees,
Heathrow runway 09 is actualy 095,
A lot of airports are like this, use the ILS approach to line up with the runway for an auto landing, you will always miss the runway if you rely on the heading indicator settings.
Do you switch from auto heading to approach to use the ILS auto? Tune your nave 1 frequency to the ILS frequency,
have your nav 2 set to the airport frequency.
Magnetic bearings are not taken into account in M.F.Sims.
Which version are you using?
Do not be afraid to ask for advice, I have hundreds of hours flying all over the world on these.
I think I must be an anorak!
