An aquaintance would like my hubby to spend a day with him showing him how to do certain things on his computer such as spreadsheets, using the internet etc.... He is willing to do this but has no idea how much to charge. He is an IT professional in his day job so is qualified to give this guy instruction. Anyone any ideas?
i'd say an average days wages - but i mean for someone who is not especially well paid - say 50 - so its not too much but not too little, and sounds like you have just rounded off an amount and not added up hours etc
Why are people so concerned with money? I work in IT and if somebody asked me the same thing (and they often do) the idea of charging them wouldn't come into it.
Thanks for the replies so far. Well WoWo, he would like to do it for nowt but as he is hoping to do this sort of thing full-time soon I don't think we would get far on nowt or indeed a couple of pints. Unfortunately until we win the lottery we have to concern ourselves with money. You may earn mega bucks and be looking forward to a mega pension but most are not in that position!
I dont know of any techs that would come to your home and work for less than about 30 notes an hour. Thats in a business context.
But it it was a friend the price and for how long etc is something you'd have to negotiate.
Whatever you decide to charge, make sure it's consistent - if he helps 2 people and they end up talking about his work and one paid twice as much as the other, you might not get any return business!! :D
