i know that if i turn off system restore all existing restore points get deleted--is it possible to just delete any given point and if so how is it done?--thanks all

No, there is no option to delete any particular restore point.

The only options you have are to delete all by turning Restore off (this you already know); delete all but the last by going to System Cleanup and on the More Option tab and in the System Restore section click the Cleanup Button and OK your way out.

There is a third, hit and miss, way to remove the oldest restore points. Go to the tab where you turn Restore on/off and reduce the amount of disk space allowed, As you reduce the disk space older restore points (oldest first) are deleted, but the only way you know that one or more have gone is to run restore and see what ones still exist in the "Calendar". If you reduce the storage space Restore will be turned off without warming! (200MB from memory). You may have to do this for each drive you have.

or you can realise that when your computer screws up system restore wont work. it never works. turn that crap off and get real backup software

thanks folks--i sympathise with u boobesque tho i have only experienced that once--aussiegeoff--i figured there would not be a way--ur idea of decreasing the allocated space bit by bit is an excellent one--as u say the worst that can happen is it would trigger an automatic switch-off of restore--which is what i had to do anyway--my problem was a constant pop up alert from avg saying there is a virus in a certain location--would not heal it, send it to vault, give more info on it or ignore it--i could do nothing--not even get rid of the alert unless i shut down avg--i was able to identify and find the infection--it was within a restore point and no real threat if i didn't restore to that point, but i couldn't get avg to do anything with it--hence i figured if i could just delete that one restore point it would solve it--thanks again and sorry to go on a bit but felt it might be of interest to some as to why i wanted to delete just one point--cheers--arthur
