I'm based in the UK but have friends in the USA and Canada. I have their cellphone numbers and was wondering whether it's possible to send text messages to international phones such as these.
for instance one friend has sent me her new cell number from canada and it's 10 digits long. do i have to add a code to the front of this as i would if i was dialling her land line? any tips would be cool. thanks

yes there will be an international code thing, just like for the UK has 44, eg: if your number's 07712 345 678, if you were texting it from abroad you will need to take the 0 off the beginning and replace it with +44, therefore your number would be +447712 345 678.

I will try to find out what the code is, chances are it will be different in Canada to the US xx
try this site, it should work the same, try it out.

oh, and it looks like they both have the same code.. eg +17712 345 678

hope it works xx
Yes, I text USA all the time from UK and as their cellphones are no different than their landline numbers (unlike ours when you can tell its a mobile by the number) so you just put in their number as if you were calling USA i.e. 001 then the area code and then the number. Beware of it being more expensive though.

in case i didnt make that last post clear......i think that the area code for Alberta is 403.....do i have to put that in somewhere or does it not matter with cell phones?
Well if Canada is the same as Canada then you just put exactly the same as if you were calling them on a landline which would be 001 403 *** **** this is what you do for USA but can't vouch for Canada.
