BT SMS telephone service.

I have just had a call from the above service telling me I have an SMS message and that I should press 1 if I want to hear it. However I was on a rotary phone and dialling 1 just cut me off. I 1473-ed back on a push button phone, but was told I have no messages. How can I retrieve the message?
