Spam email

Over the last three months I have started to get vast amounts of 'spam'.
I have has three 'foreign' bank clerks with access to money they want to export, a number of impresive offers and a vast qualtity of garbage. The garbage I have simply deleted, the rest are on hold.
I have a feeling that they should be sent on to somewhere for investigation - but where?

I am with BTYahoo and I started getting mail address to different people but all with the Christian name Alan ( which is the first part of my address)
BT talked me through the option of blocking mail and although it took about three days and ten attempts, because their addresses were all different, I am now cured and dont receive any more Rgds Al

Hi, Change your e-mail address. I know this may be inconvenient, however if you change your e-mail to one that has numbers and letters there is virtually no chance of anyone finding it with e-mail software.
E.G. [email protected]
It is also wise to have at least 2 e-mail addresses, one for family and friends and another for internet forums and the like.
I foolishly entered a competition using my e-mail address and ended up with countless "spam" e-mails, since changing it to one with numbers and letters I have yet to receive a "Spammy"
Regards

Maybe we are both thick lol You said change your e-mail address to one with letters and numbers in it and they cant find you. Thats what I want to know how it works.
What I had, which upset me was E-mails:-
alan.smith@bt.....
Alan.carter@bt......
Alan.Jones@bt....
and so on. They were all typewritten messages about certain stocks and shares and came from different places. What I could'nt understand was why I was getting them. BT said they had hi-jacked by address which was a bit worrying.
Carras Sorry I seemed to have hijacked yr question. Maybe we will both learn something Sorry Alan

Hi,
From what I can gather, there is software that can generate e-mails and send them out automatically. If you use a name such as any of the ones you have given, it is fairly simple to track down e.g. alan.???
peter.??? etc. By using a number it is more difficult for whatever to electronically find a name plus a number.
Think about the lottery for, 16,000,000 to one using 6 numbers.
Another way is to use a misspelled name. I would keep away from using names of any description. Many years ago ,one of my old e-mail addresses was [email protected] within a month I was plastered with spam e-mails, hence the reason to block them completely by using letters and numbers combined.
I hope this helps, please try it and let me know.
Regards
Drew

Wow what a load of replies, I thought me email was acting up again!
For info I have 3 email addresses, two include numbers and one is a private organisational address.
The main email address which is causing the problem is the one with 4 digits that I have had for years. Recently I joined a couple of YAHOO groups using that address. It is only since then that the problem has started.
Perhaps I should contact YAHOO!
