We're getting a new computer very soon and I need to know about virus protection...

Up till now I really haven't bothered because our PC is soooo old but what I want to know is, how do I protect the new one from viruses??? Do I download something or go to the shop and buy something? Sorry for my ignorance and thanks for all your help in advance...

I would recommend Norton Anti-virus 2003. It is cheap, you get a years worth of free virus definition updates and it is easy to configure. If you are cheap you can down load it from Kazaa, but spare a thought for symantec: they have to pay someone to create all the viruses they protect you from.
I couldn't agree more with j2buttonsw. Once loaded and configured they download the latest info automatically so you wouldn't even know except for a little icon in your system tray.
If you're on a budget try AVG software (it's free) and they have regular updates (but you DO have to check and download them yourself regularly... but then again it is free!):

Cupra: You don't have to check for updates with AVG.
I stand corrected, lisaj, I was thinking of something else!
