Xbox 360 freezes / crashes

My Xbox 360 keeps freezing / crashing at various different points througoht games. I tried more than one game as I thought it was the game but it does it on more than one game. Has anyone else had this problem or does anyone know what might be the cause?

It is a common fault.
Try playing the games without the hdd attached and you will probably find the problem reduces in frequency but still occurs.My original 360 kept doing this and eventually wouldnt even play for more than 2 mins before fatally crashing.
I bought mine on release day from Game(early Dec '05) and it went wrong in July this year.They exchanged without a receipt with no quibbles.I recommend you take yours back to wherever you bought it.
Worst case - ring microsoft and they will collect and repair or exchange but this can take a couple of weeks.

make sure you have good ventilation to both the xbox and its power supply. - put them on a table or shelf not on the carpet

Mine exhibited the exact symptoms to louise's.I tried everything with regards to venhilation believing that this was the problem but all to no avail.
im afraid her problem is permanent and her best solution is to exchange.since i exchanged mine i have had no problems(touch wood!)
