hello i am trying to set up a web site, i have bought a domain, paid for a hosting site, aquired FTP.

What next?

I presume i need some sort of front page editor.

A website basically consists of a set of linked HTML pages and there don't seem to be any of those (apart from postinfo.html) at that URL.

You need to creat a home page for your site. Make sure that the file name is index.html (or index.htm) otherwise the server won't recognise it as your home page. To create your home page (and any other pages you may require) you either need a crash course in HTML coding or, easier, some WYSIWYG site-creation software. If you've got Microsoft FrontPage on your PC, that will do the job. If not, there's plenty of suitable free software available, such as WebPlus 6.0, here:

If you want to be able to open that pdf file from your home page, create a link from the home page to the URL of the pdf.
With most webpage creation programs, you do that by highlighting the text you want to form the link. Then right click and select something like 'link to'. Enter the address of the link as http://www.mckeeversbonuses.com/THE%20IDIOTS%2 0GUIDE%20TO%20MAKING%20MONEY%20ONLINE.pdf
(All of those '%20' bits are because your file name contains spaces. Web addresses can't contain spaces, as such. '%20' is the code which replaces a space).

When you've done that, save your home page with the name 'index'. (So that it will become a file called index.html or index.htm).

Then use your ftp program to upload that file to your web space. Now, when anyone goes to http://www.mckeeversbonuses.com/ they should see your home page and be able to click the link to the pdf.

I know im only still learning but my site still looks very amateurish, how do you get it so all the information is sort of contained in a template and one page leads to another ?

Mine is totally obvious thats its been done by someone with no experience.

Unfortunately, I'm getting out of my depth now. The websites I've uploaded have usually been very simple things (such as providing information about village fetes). They're usually only online for a few weeks, so a basic, amateurish feel is usually acceptable.

I suggest that you Google 'xxxxxxxx tutorial', where xxxxxxxx is the name of the software you're using to create your site. (e.g. 'frontpage tutorial'). If you're using FronPage, this very simple guide might help. (It's intended for use in schools but it's still worth a look). In particular, check out Section 9:

I'm sorry that I can't provide detailed information to meet your needs but I'm pleased to see that your site is on line. (Incidentally, to change your home page, just FTP the new one to your web space and it will be over-written. Obviously, any decent FTP program will ask you first before this happens. Just remember that, whatever changes you make, your homepage must be named 'index').

To make it look more professional, you really want a consistent style on your text. And use another font, Times New Roman really sucks. Arial or Verdana are nice to the eye.

What you really should be looking at is using CSS. This is one file that describes how an HTML page will look like, then you can use it on every page of the site as a sort of template.
