I have a problem playing burned DVDs

i have burned a holiday movie onto dvd but when i try to watch it does not play what would bet he reason for this. many thanks

Was this your first attempt or have you been successful before using the same process? Are you sure you're using the correct grade of DVD - plus/minus?

it says unknow disc
Are you sure your dvd player plays dvd-r's or dvd-rw's?
You have not said whether it will not play on your PC or if you are using a DVD player.
what software did you use ?
The file needs to be converted to the correct format for playing on a standard player -- Try and get a copy of 'Nero' it is excellent and will solve your problem.
You have run your video through a video converter haven't you? You can't play a recorded mpeg or avi file; it has to be converted to a file the dvd player understands. VIDEO TS I think it is, though I'm no expert. There should be plenty of free ones available that can handle the conversion.

yes i do need a converter but i cant find a free one
