Conflict of connections

I have a laptop connected wirelessly to the net. Works fine. Also connected to this laptop is an old pc via a lan. Problem is when I enable the lan connection, I cannot access the net. Are there any rules concerning the IP address and subnet mask that I gave to the lan connection?

It registers them both as an internet connection, therefore doesnt know which to use so chooses the latest one you plugged in.

Thanks for that. I guess it should have been obvious! Now I have connected the old pc (pc3) to the router with an ethernet cable, as is a second pc (pc2). At the moment the laptop (pc1) can communicate with pc2 but not with pc3, however pc2 can communicate with pc3. Seems strange as when pc3 was connected to pc1 by cable a few hours ago, it was fine, so I'm assuming all firewall protocols are being met.

Any ideas?
