In 1948 Shockley, Barden and Brattain, working in the Bell Telephone Laboratories in the USA, demonstrated that a transistor could amplify electrical signals and also act as a switch. Furthermore, until the 1950s it was not possible to produce germanium and later silicon with the high purity required to make useful transistors.
That was the time when silicon chip going to create.
