I have a usb connection for an external dvd writer. I've had it working before and now suddenly my laptop won't read it - there is no connection at all. I've tried uninstalling the drivers and reinstalling them to no effect. Any ideas anyone please? I use XP on my laptop and normally it would be a case of plug and play. Many thanks.

Mine has done the same a couple of times - I unplugged the writer, switched it on, and then plugged the USB back into the laptop - the DVD writer was then recognised. sometimes when I have had everything connected up before powering up it doesn't seem to be recognised. (my DVD has a separate power source, btw)
Give it a try - might work for you...
