DAB radio vs. Sky Gnome
3 Answers
I would love to purchase a DAB radio, but looking at the coverage details for my postcode, I see there is a fair chance I will receive lots of commercial channels but struggle with the BBC channels (I love R7 and R2 - sign of age!)
I already subscribe to Sky - would a Sky Gnome be a solution, or should I go for my beautiful radio and send Mr X up on the roof with a new aerial?!

It might be that you can pick up signals on a DAB radio for the BBC channels. Why not just buy one see if it works and if not take it back saying it cant pick up the channels or it seems to have some kind of fault (ie: it wont pick up any channels you want) most good retailers will refund you. Can you imagine Sky refunding you for the gnome? I think not.
Also bear in mind that consumer tests on the sky gnome have shown the audio quality to be no where near as good as DAB. The noise is quite 'tinie' (pron: Tin E )
Also you will be missing out on other good channels as well if you went with Sky Gnome. Like Chill FM. No adverts, no talk, just ambient and chilling music 24/7. Might not be your sort of thing but there are other channels as well like a comedy channel.
All in all DAB is better. Just buy one and if you dont like it take it back. No harm done then.
Hope this helps you decide.

OK, thanks I really appreciate your replies.
I think you're right, I'll just go for it with DAB - I didn't realise the Sky gnome had been panned - but then should I be surprised?! You've both confirmed my suspicions, I think my gut instinct was not to go the 'gnome route'!
I was interested to read about the range of different channels - I tried to seach for a definitive list of channels available in my area, but got nowhere I'm afraid. Still, all adds to the excitement - I'm off shopping now!!
