removing channel numbers from tv screen

I've got a panasonic lcd tv. Whenever I change channel, the channel number stays on the screen permanently. Is there something I can do so that it only appears for a couple of seconds? It always seems to cover sports scores shown on the screen.

Have you pressed all the buttons on your remote.I have panasonic and under the channel numbers there is a C that shows the channel number on screen . hope this helps
