data protection on websites putting information on sites
2 Answers
can anyone please help. I am putting together an advice site for the film industry. I want to put together a directory of contact details for various companies. Does the data protection act apply. Do I have to ask all the companies if I can list there addresses or is this different. Thanks

If it is just contacts within businesses and companies than you should be ok, but if you found, say, the home address, 'phone number or even personal email address of a Casting Director or Clapper Loader I would not advise publicising that!
The DPA requires that if you do keep personal info on your system you have to register with the Data Protection Registar and publicise a contact point so that people can see what you've got on them and you have to offer them an opportunity to alter the stuff if they think it is inaccurate. Obviously, the government, Armed Forces, and Civil Service is exempt.

Hi,
Congrats you decided for a good one. Here i may be giving you suggestion regarding your question.
1. you need to decide whether the contact details include all personal details of a company resource in sense of the directors residential address, email, phone and etc.
In this regard, if your answer is yes, You must ask them for a permission to display all details of them.
if you are going to display only their company details, its fine. but in my view, asking permission is better even though its their company details.
And I suggest one more thing that to protect your site from hackers and malicious software attack. To prevent from those attacks you must protect your site with the protection scanner which is available at the service providers like http://www.thewebpole.com/. If my informations worth to you please extend your comments
