I don't think you 't need a license if you just use the tv for ps2, as long as you're not receiving the signals. I think you'd have to remove the aerial or something. So that's 130 pounds saved! You could then buy a cheap second hand tv.
A TV used solely for watching prerecorded programmes or games would be licence exempt. But this could be an issue in some places, as even without an aerial, you might get a signal good enough to watch (we do). If this were so, you'd be struggling against the legal might of the BBC to prove you never used it to watch off-air programs.

You'd probably be better with a computer monitor. Get a cheap one off ebay. Better picture quality and none of licence problems.
I'm not sure you can connect a PS2 to a monitor, unless you can find one with a RCA input.
But... If you've got one of these, you could easily connect a freeview/satellite box to it, so could be considered a TV by the license people.

Can I connect the PS2 to an old computer monitor? What connections from the PS2 would I need and what connections would have to be on the monitor to enable me to to it.
are you living in halls? i lived in private halls in liverpool, and i dont think any of the 900 students in our complex had a license. im not saying you should break the law, but if you do you wont be the only one, your going to be a poor student after all
I lived in halls last year, and they sent us all letters saying that no-one had applied for a license and that we must write to them saying we don't have tvs, or they would come round and check.

Guess what, they didn't. I couldn't be bothered to write back, thinking they wouldn't come round, and it didn't matter if they did because I didn't even have a tv. I reckon you could get away with it, but I wouldn't recommend it! Where I lived the reception was bad anyway, so unless it was plugged into terrestrial we wouldn't have got a signal.
A bloke I know at work bought a flat screen monitor for his kids bedroom, and they use that for both their PC and XBox. I can't see as a PS2 would be that much difefrent.
