It has been announced that Tesco is about to release some sofware packages to compete with Microsoft. This is a good start but when will they compete with operating systems such as XP?

Hello Kwicky,

Sadly, they will never compete with Micro$oft. Software is no where near Tescos' core business plan / strategy. Since over 90% of the worlds' computing population already use Micro$soft products, their world domination of this sector is set to continue for a few thousands years more - I am VERY sorry to report!

Regards.

Knowing Tesco, it'll be bundled with all sorts of spyware anyway.

They may not be able to compete with Microsoft technically but if they can produce a reasonable product at a much lower price there could be a big change in peoples buying habits. They deserve every encouragement!
But they can't produce a product at a lower price than Microsoft. Microsoft are far richer, and will always be able to undercut.

If you don't like using XP though, there are several other OS's that are very good. Mac OS X is one, only for Apple Macs though. Others are free and can be installed straight over or along side XP, such as freeBSD and a good distro of GNU/Linux called Ubuntu.
Question Author
I'm not a fan of Tesco but if anyone can undercut them on price there would be problem in buying from Microsoft and everyone would benefit.

'no problem' obviously....blame the editor!
