Lost File

I use W2000 and Office2000. Last night I added to a Word file, saved and shut down in the normal way. Today the entire file is completely gone (not in bin or anywhere in Word) although search has found traces with a few bits of lines in a temporary file tagged at about the time I saved. Can anyone please give me suggestions as to how I can retrieve the lost file. What use is this technology if you can never be sure to see your material again unless backing up every time (what if that similarly disappears) - might as well go back to hard copies on everything every time.

With no other idea available, and nothing to lose, I higlighted all the material in the temporary file which I opened as a text. Selecting copy, I then openerd a blank Word document and pasted in the material from the temporary file. Lo and behold, a lot of the lost material appeared, none of it underlined, bold, justified etc. but the text appears to be mostly there (from memory). Just as well I remembered some key words to find the temporary file. No need for others to post a reply now, unless some brilliant method to recreate lost files exists.
