Software that records a monitor

I want some software that I can record my monitor with as I am doing a presentation and would like to record what is on my monitor to give examples of what to do. Does anyone know the name of any software like this? It does exist as I have seen it before.

Adobe's Captivate can do this.

also river past screen recorder works but it generates massive avi files in my experience
