.bmp to jpeg

Does anyone know how i can read or convert .bmp files to a mac friendly format - jpeg for example?
I have been given a disk full of images but unfortunately they are all .bmp files and my mac doesnt recognise them.
Pleeeeaaaase dont make me have to go anywhere near a PC!

open the file and go to to >file>save as> below the field where you would put a file name is another field giving the option to save the file in another format, select jpeg from that option and save.

Are you sure the Mac wont open BMP files?
Have you tried Photoshop?

I'd be very surprised if your Mac can't open them, even my old Amiga could.

Macs will happily open bitmap files. As llamatron says, they're incredibly old and popular.

I cant even open them or i would have tried the suggestion ratter gave.
Ive tried opening them in photoshop but no luck there either.

which is suppose is self explanatory.
They are specifically Windows Bitmap files so that may be something. Ive never come across this sort of file before and i suspect it is the individual files that are to blame and not my mac (or my incompetence).

Try inserting them into a word document !!

Try Irfanview - don't know if it works on MACS though
