Is there some kind of adaptor that will allow ceramic hair styling tongs to work as effectively in California as they do in the UK. ie they will not heat as quickly in USA with simply using a voltage adaptor.

I'd hazard a guess that any transformer that will give you a 50Hz 220V supply will cost more than a set of US hair styling tongs.
