whats the difference between them. Also when HDD broadcasts start will we need a different set top box to receive these channels.

HD broacasts have already started ! and yes you will need an HD box be it sky or other.
Answer to the HDD Box Question. Pure and simple YES, Sky have got a HD Box Already out, I dont know how much it is but I know its not cheap.

HDMI is to feed HDTV componants such as Blu Ray,Xbox 360 HDDVD Etc......most TV's only have 1 socket at the mo. but over time they will bring out TV's with more then 1 socket
