Could be a problem with your graphics card ... do you know what make it use (something like Nvidia or ATI)?

Go to their website and get the latest drivers, download them and install them....

When did the problem start? Did you do anything? Install any software/hardware?
This happened to me a while ago and I needed to update my graphics card drivers.

thanks for ur help. but i dont have a graphics card, had problem with pc had to fomat it all, since then its been like this plus ive lost print screen and a few more, but the scrolling is very annoying.
thanks again.
You have to have a graphics card to view anything on the screen :) It can either be a card that is plugged in the motherboard or built on to the motherboard directly...

Like I suggested before, you need to install the correct graphics card drivers and the fact that you just formatted it tells me that is indeed the problem!

Go to Start -> Control Panel -> System and choose the "Hardware" tab. Then click on Device Manager and make a note of what it says under "Display Adapters". Post it here, and we'll go from there....

thanks alot. only thing i can find is pcmcia adapters, o2micro oz6912 cardbus controller,
and theres other drivers non-plug and play. sorry not to sure what you need. hope what ive given you is the one. i cant see display adapters.
OK - plan B!

I forgot to ask, but I'm assuming you're using Windows XP?

Go to Start -> Run and type "dxdiag" (without the speechmarks) and press enter. If a message comes up, press "Yes" and you will be presented with the DirectX Diagnostic Tool. Go to the Display tap at the top where it should display your graphics card details!

Is it a machine you bought from a retailer? If so, do you have the make and model number??

hi again

ps
should i use the repair drivers cd ive got?
Hmm.. I guess the DXdiag screen only shows up when it's been installed... as it sounds like the driver isn't installed, nothing is showing.

If you have the drivers disk that came with the PC, use it! That should install all the "out of the box" settings for the devices on the computer.

What's the computer model? Something like Pavilion a1400 or Pavilion t3600?
Question Author
ok ta
ill try the cd , yep its a pavilion ze5700
when i was fomating i had put the driver cd in by mistake instead of the OS cd. would that have damage it. ?
It would have to have had the OS disc to format/reinstall everything ... the drivers disc can only be used after the OS is up and running...

Anyway... !! Rather that use the drivers CD, go to the HP website and download them (newer drivers are always better to use than the outdated ones on a CD, although some of the drivers on the site go back to 2004). Here's the site: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareLis t?os=228&lc=en&cc=uk&jumpid=reg_R1002_UKEN&dlc =en&product=455046

The graphics card is made by ATI! But laptop drivers are slightly different... you have to get the graphics drivers from the laptop manufacturer rather than the graphics card company like I suggested previously.

That should hopefully sort you out!!! But now I'm off to bed :) Any problems post back and I'll check the posts tomorrow.

Good luck!

lol after all that, just installing some drivers it works. thank you very much for your help. i just had know idea what i needed to look for to get it going. wouldnt have thought a driver problem.
any idea where my print screen would have gone to. lol
no only joking you have helped enough.
cheers
What do you mean by your "print screen has gone"?

When you press the Print Screen it takes a snapshot of your screen and copies it to the clipboard so you can paste it into another application... or was yours programmed to do something else?

Might as well get everything fixed at once, eh?!
Question Author
sorry i write the way i talk lol
yep its the print screen where you take snap shot. i press the button and it will not take a snap shot. ive tried ctrl + prt sc but that will not work. it worked b4 i had this formating problem.
cheers
