What do you mean by document scraps ?
Question Author
They're files that appear on the desktop, the icon looks like a piece of paper with the bottom torn off, and the file name is 'Document Scrap 'original filename'' - they're generally parts of documents I have on my system, but they only just started appearing.
they are files which have been saved to your desktop, they can be quite handy, for instance, if you saved your house address as a scrap file, you just have to drag and drop it into every letter you write to save typing it out.

That's fair enough, but how do I create them?
I'm not the world's expert at this and someone else might correct me, but what I do for example is, type my address in Word, go to 'file' and 'save as', give it a name and click the 'up 1 level' until it says 'desktop' and save. It now appears on the desktop where if you want to insert into another document all you have to do is drag and drop it.
