Is there any way that when I use google, altavista or any of these search engines I can filter out the countless number of ads from ebay or its customers. I'm just fed up of having to trail through ebay junk mail to find what I'm looking for. May be an ebay filter similar to the family filters that some sites offer??

I use google, so don't know too much about the other search engines.

In google, put a minus sign immediately before the word to want to exclude. Example:

pirates of the Caribbean dvd -eBay

Thanks Ethel, I'll give it a try for the time being. However, I really would like something more permanent.
Use firefox, with adblock plus. It'll remove many adverts in pages for you.
fo3nix - it not ads as such that hamps wants to remove - it's the ebay goods for sale that come up in the search results.
Especially irritating is eBay using your Google keywords to come up with some ridiculous links, like 'Find blocking on eBay'
