Children of the mist ?

I used to read a book called children of the mist, or something like that with my nana.
She's getting Ill now and really can't remember it, or where she put it so I'm trying to get her to remember it ! Searching it on the internet brings up completly different results.
IT was about some children that stole a boat and rode out to a island where they got in danger when the fog came in. then strange children/ ghosts who had already died there tried to save them ( i think! it was quite scary for my age). Thats as much as I remember.

This is a specialist site for old books. I've just had a quick look for "children of the mist" and it looks like there are several with that title by different authors. Maybe if you use that site, then amazon to see a synopsis of the books you may find yours.

hi, it also souns a bit like the 3rd book in his dark materiels trilogy 'the amber spyglass'. Two children go to an island where all souls go and ghost children there help them. x
