How do you write for example......HAPPY CHRISTMAS. with a coloured background and different coloured lettering. It is doing my head in trying. Many thanks.

It looks like a capital letter A with a thick underline. Click the wee arrow to the right of it and a menu will appear with a list of colours.
Do this one letter at a time if you want - the coloured background I can't think of how to do it from memory but must be similar.

Sorry maggie01 I presumed you were in Word to start with.
Format is on the top row. Once you have selected Font you will see an array of things you can do with it inc Text Effect that you may find interesting. You select the font you wish to use then write the words.The same goes for Background, you could even use a picture as a background not just a colour. Don't be afraid just play around with it, what have you got to loose. That's how we all got started.
