computer virus

ive bought brand new computer for my children for christmas. is there anything i can do or buy(cheap if poss) to avoid virus,s and popups etc?

Install AVG virus protection,it is free and excellent. Also Ad-aware or C-Cleaner,all free.

Yeah I use AVG free and have never had any problems

I also use AVG anti-virus and ZoneAlarm firewall - both free.

I also use A2 and Ad-Aware, again free.

I have always use avg anti virus as well and it has served me fine also as most of you know windows xp has its own firewall and that has also been great one more thing that I might ad here is that you do pick up a lot of spyware when surfing the web, most of it is harmless but some of it can be annoying i have got spybot search and destroy on both my desktop and laptop and run it every week and it always picks up and removes a fair amount of spyware.
