Bluey, there are many different w32 viruses (see this page for removal tools: http://www.symantec.com/avcenter/tools.list.html ). If you can identify yours from this list just follow the removing instructions. Good luck!

j2buttonsw.......I went to the page cant seem to identify it. I'm not that much of a techie. Is there any way to get rid of it other than formating the hdd. And will cdrw discs that i have now be infected as well as the new usb hdd?
I assume you found out it was a win32 virus through running the AVG antivirus software, hasn't that fixed it? As this website ( http://www.antivirusscans.com/win32_virus.htm ) says, there are many win32 virus types many of which are cured by modern antivirus software. The worst case scenario is a rebuild. Because the virus infects system files usually data files and therefore CDRs and your data USB HDD are safe. Scanning using a good antivirus software (such as AVG or Norton) is a good way of determining whether you have a virus and what virus you have is.

I tried avg but kept getting an error so I got Bitdefender (30 day trial v7) It has found 1 virus with 7 locations. It has tried to disinfect these ..failed and has now moved the files to" quarantine". Am I free of the virus ...can I start reinstalling?
