Can the electricity company communicate with my key meter? I remember reading some time back about power companies investigating the possibility of Broadband Internet over power cables. I have been told the Power Company can communicate with my meter and alter the settings remotely, is this true?
Not realy much help to you but the new genration of Gas meters have a built in Chip and Transmitter so they can be accessed by a passing vehicle for meter reading porpose's, to try and eliminate access & estimating difficulties. Eventually they will be able to communicate via wirless acces to control centre's. I would imagine the electricity meter's would be persuing and fitting the same technology aswell.
In a word - NO. The only way anyone can communicate with your meter is via physically using some type of Engineering key.
There is technology for Broadband over power cables but it is not used in the UK, more in developing countries that do not have extensive communications infrastructure.
