I had Xp Home installed on my laptop, HDD packed up, so got my m8 to put a newone in. So far so good untill the windows actication key that is stuck to computer cases is missing, so he installed Xp Pro, worked great until i installed some updates, then WGA wont let me Validate my copy of windows, is there any way round this or will i just have to do with out the new windows media player and explorer, and other updates

Unfortunately, you will also be missing out on a lot of security updates, you may as well accept that you are going to have to purchase a new copy of XP.

Ring Microsoft explain you lost your key due to hard drive failure they may be sympathetic if you can prove your case
