Hi jp,
when you open up Nero Startsmart there is a dropdown menu at the top which allows you to select CD or DVD,Select the DVD option. There should be several icons on the front screen, and one of them should be a star shape.Click on he star and select 'make your own dvd video'.You should then be taken to another screen with some options listed on the right hand side, and one of these options should be 'add video files', click on this option and a box will appear which allows you to search for you files. If you have converted you files to dvd they should be listed in a VIDEO_TS folder.Open up the folder and the actual video files should appear something like VTS_01_1.Select these files and click on the open button, and your files will be added to Nero.If you have added several files that you want to be one single file, then simply click on the merge files option which is one of the liitle circle icons that should be showing down the left hand side of the screen.Once you have done this, click on next, then burn, and your video should burn to DVD.
Remember, you have to use a DVD disc for this, not a CD.Also, I dont think you can burn the VTS File to a CD even if ou selected the CD option on the first page of Nero.

Mattk, jp_2031 is using WinAVI to convert his files to DVD format before burning because when jp lets Nero do the conversion the resulting video and audio are often out of synch.I had the same problem, and using WinAVI seemed to resolve the problem, plus it is far,far quicker than Nero.WinAVI will convert a movie size AVI to DVD in about 20-30 minutes, and then Nero only takes a further 20 minutes to burn to DVD because it does not have to do the conversion, which often takes about 3-4 hours using Nero.
hi - im lost after i press create dvd on startsmart as once i press that nero launches nero vision and at the side only allows me to create miniDVD, super video cd and video cd, and there is no-where i can see that says add video files at this time.
Here is an image below to show you what i get when i click it.

jp_2031, Do you know what version of Nero you have, was it supplied with you PC or did you purchase it? If it came with your PC, then I suspect you do not have a version that allows you to burn movies files to DVD.Also, if you have am OEM version, it most likely is not the full package. The version I got with my PC had a DVD option, but would only allow me to burn Data DVD's.Maybe the version you have only allows your movies to be burned to VCD or SVCD, which can only be burned to a CD Disc.
The back of the white sleeve that the Nero disc came with should let you know what version you have. The sleeve normally has pictures of all the programs icons on the back, but some of them may have a asterix next to them, which usually means that you do not have the full program.
If you discover you dont have the full version, follow the link below to download a full version (be warned, this is illegal), but you will need a Torrent program such as BitLord to do so.
