Display adaptor Windows 2000

On a new computer, we've installed Windows 2000 from disk, but for some reason can only get 16-bit colour from the display - no other choices come up. Does this mean that we're short of a display adaptor? If so, how do I go about finding one - I'd have thought it would be on the Windows disk?

I would say that you haven't got the correct device driver for your video card. It sounds as though you have a generic driver since the standard VGA driver would only give you 16 or 256 colours. Whilst the Windows 2000 has a large driver library it isn't exhastive. Find out what video card you have (take the lid off and examine it closely is the best bet) then get the latest driver from its manufacturers website. This will also give the card's extra functionality. The other vital thing with Windows 2000 is to install the latest DirectX (9a I think) from Microsoft as this has a large bearing on how well games play on this corporate operating system.

New computer? then you should have gotten a drivers installation disk with it. You put that in after you install Windows and it installs your optimal drivers. If you don't have the drivers disk see your retailer and insist.
