I have a Dell computer and the fan makes a sound like a jumbo jet arriving at Heathrow. It has now become unbearable, even when doing the simplist applications on word or excel. I would be grateful if anyone could advise a solution to this problem.

Sounds like you've got a clogged fan. By some compressed air and give it a good clean.

Thanks very much Ethel.
Also what you have described could mean that the heatsink underneath the CPU fan has become blocked with dust, and also needs cleaning.

This may involve removing the CPU fan, so care is required.
If cleaning it doesn't solve the problem then do not use the computer until it has been fixed. It could mean a faulty fan or the thermostat that regulates your fan's speed has gone wonky. If your CPU gets too hot you will probably cook it and it is the dearest part in most people's computer to replace.

Thanks Mattie

I just hope it is the the fan that's causing this and not the way the computer has been accustomed by Dell
So my 2p worth didn't impress you then, eh?
