anti virus software

What is the best anti virus software for home use? We have just had broadband installed and are unsure of what all we should be using.

Also, is it possible to download this for free anywhere and if not, how much is a yearly subscription?

AVG Anti-Virus do a free version which is excellent:

You shopuld also have a firewall and Zone alarm do a great free one:

I would also suggest adaware for checking for spyware

With both AVG and adaware make sure you download the latest files on a regular basis (AVG does this for you) and also run them both on a regular basis.

I also run WinPatrol which is also free

This excellent little program warns you if anyone is trying to install some software, or change you PC settings, or change your interent home page.

This program is trying to stop problems BEFORE they start, unlike many programs which tell you you already have a problem.

Even if all of these programs aren't objectively and certifiably THE best ones, they're all of a good enough standard to be recommended. Whichever programs you use, try to keep them up to date and schedule them to run each day/week

And unlike your paid for anti-virus AVG and Avast are not resource hungry.

emailer, I agree with vehelpfulguy, I run exactly the same programmes and have done for 3 years without a single hitch.

avg is the one for me
it is brill it is free
it keeps you prottected through the sun and rain
and never ever gives you a pain
so if you neeed to get rid of a little virus or worm
then download avg and watch the ******* squirm...
