I recently bought a new DVD player that has PAL, NTSC and MULTI options on it. A friend has sent me a DVD from Australia that I am unable to play no matter what option I choose on the player. I have scoured the manual with no help. Can anyone assist me please?

Australia uses PAL, so I imagine the problem is with the disk. You don't say if it's a commercial disk or a home-made one. Maybe its DVD+R and your player can only read -R (or vice versa). If it's commercial, it could be a region problem (you don't mention whether your player is multi-region). Or, of course, it could just be a duff disk!
If it is a region problem, you may be able to get around it by using one of the many hacks which are available. What is the make and model of your DVD player ?
